Updated Bio

Being a Colorado native, Lara was always drawn to an active and athletic lifestyle. Lara was introduced to yoga in a high school dance class and she knew instantly that it was an intricate piece of her life's path. She was intrigued and mystified by the complexity of the human body and the study of it's movement. In 2005, Lara began her studies in massage therapy at the Boulder College of Massage Therapy where she currently works in Boulder as a therapist. As the result of a shoulder injury her dedication to yoga grew more and more. Compelled to immerse herself in its study, she completed the CorePower teacher training in 2008 and began masterfully weaving her experience as a body-worker and a yoga practitioner. Lara's classes convey the depth that she has discovered within yoga that goes far beyond the physical asana practice. Lara creates a beautiful rhythm of meditation and healing by aligning the breath, and focusing the mind with the movement of the physical body. "Because the practice has affected me so profoundly it is a joy and honor to share its benefits through teaching." Recently, Lara has expanded her knowledge beyond Power Vinyasa and Hot Yoga to teach Yin Yoga and Partner Yoga by the fall of 2009.

The moment she heard about Elysabeth’s first Partner Yoga Teacher Training she was magnetized knowing that this was her next step on her yogic path. By combining the power of touch with yoga we find a powerfully healing practice. “When Elysabeth looks me in the eyes, I can feel how present and connected she is to all of humanity. She is a beautiful teacher in my life and I am so thankful to be her student. “ Lara believes that partner yoga creates a sacred space and container for the deeper philosophy of yoga to emerge. Lara not only practices partner yoga on the mat, she is humbled every day with the dance of marriage to her husband, Colin. Lara knows that by having the support of another human during our yoga practice and in life it cultivates awareness and energy. She teaches group workshops and is available for individual and couple private sessions. Please contact her directly at larastouch@gmail.com

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga, so named because of its correspondence to the Taoist concept of yin, is a very distinct style of Chinese yoga similar to hatha yoga that stretches the connective tissue (joints) rather than conditioning the muscles, the latter being the aim of most other styles of hatha yoga. Experientially, the practice is characterized by passive asanas held for several minutes each. Some believe that yin yoga is the oldest form of hatha yoga, since it is the ideal method of physical conditioning for prolonged meditation, which is the principle concern of the ancient Hindu practice of raja yoga.

Yin yoga has been popularized in Western Culture by teachers Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers. The teachings of Paul Grilley incorporate ideas related to traditional Chinese medicine and qigong, such as Taoist yoga and meridians. The practice is called yin, as opposed to yang, because it corresponds with yin attributes such as substance (as opposed to activity), passive posturing (as opposed to active movement), cold (as opposed to hot) and other such qualities. It has been differentiated from "yang" yoga just as many physical practices in China are divided into yin and yang schools, the yin schools being softer and less aggressive. Yin yoga, as it is commonly taught in the West, is now associated with these Chinese practices. Yin yoga is often used to improve the flow of qi through the body.

Yin yoga is often prescribed as a method of preparing for meditation postures, specifically lotus position(called the butterfly, in Taoist yoga), which require flexibility in the connective tissue.

The Yin yoga community continues to grow, it has become very popular in the big cities in China like Shanghai, Beijing, etc..

Recently, I completed Laura Kupperman's Yin Yoga Self Study Program and am now able to teach Yin Yoga at CorePower Yoga. Being a body worker, it is clear to me that every person can benefit from this type of yoga style. Being a perfect compliment to other kinds of Yang Yoga, I highly recommend trying it out. One and one and group sessions available...

Polarity Therapy

"Polarity therapy is a holistic alternative medicine health system developed in the 1940s by Randolph Stone. Proponents claim healing can be achieved through manipulation of what they describe as complementary (or polarized) forces, a form of putative energy. The term Stone borrowed from Chinese philosophy to describe those forces is yin and yang.

Polarity therapy is a synthesis of ancient Eastern and alternative medicine health care ideas, centered on the concept of a human energy field.

Using touch, verbal interaction, exercise, nutrition and other methods, practitioners of polarity therapy seek to balance and restore the natural flow of energy which, it is claimed, flows from the universe and into the body through the chakras. The aim is to re-establish "balance". In addition to polarity bodywork, specific polarity yoga exercises, counseling/positive thinking, and nutritional recommendations are claimed to enhance vitality.
